Media Kit: Just a Glimpse

The Tallahassee Experience
Best known as Florida's capital city, Tallahassee blends the power of state government with academic and artistic pursuits, complemented by subtle Southern characteristics of charm, mesmerizing natural beauty and gracious hospitality.

Nearer to Atlanta than Miami, Tallahassee is "The Other Florida" in attitude, topography, climate and lifestyle.

Setting
Twenty-five miles north of the Gulf and 14 miles south of Georgia, centered between Jacksonville and Pensacola.

Nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and at the juncture of Florida's panhandle and peninsula -- in an area described as the Big Bend.

Southern-Style Distinctions
Lush rolling hills dotted with plantations, towering pines, cypress, snowy dogwoods, fragrant magnolias and hundreds of shimmering lakes, springs, rivers, ponds, swamps and sink holes.

Five "official" canopy roads -- Old St. Augustine, Miccosukee, Meridian, Centerville and Old Bainbridge -- create fantastic emerald tunnels of ancient moss-draped live oaks and are listed among the "Top 10 Scenic Byways in America."

Vegetation
Rich chocolate soil breeds a mixed landscape of flora indigenous to more Southern regions -- palms, oleander and confederate jasmine -- in unique combination with noted Southern foliage of dogwoods, azaleas and camellias.

"Gentlemen" plantations continue the 1800s tradition of gathering friends to go hunting. World famous for large-mouth bass, Tallahassee also makes great "fish tales."
